Frequently asked questions.
How much does it cost to adopt?
All adoptions are completely free.
Every dog from Blue Light Canine Foundation is rescued, fully vetted, professionally trained, and placed in their new home at no cost to the adopter. Our mission is to save lives — not charge fees. We also provide ongoing training support for life.
Do you train personal pets?
Yes. While our primary mission is rescue and service-dog training, we also offer obedience training for personal petswhen scheduling allows. This helps support our rescue programs and ensures dogs in the community have access to positive, professional training.
(Contact us for availability and pricing.)
How long does service dog training take?
Service dog training typically takes 12–24 months, depending on:
The dog’s age and temperament
The specific needs of the child or adult
The type of tasks required (e.g. deep pressure therapy, elopement prevention, anxiety support, etc.)
We work closely with families throughout the process to ensure the dog is the perfect fit and fully prepared for their role. This program is only available to Southern California Residents.
How can my school or hospital request a visit?
Schools, hospitals, and community programs can request canine visits by:
Filling out our Contact form
Emailing us directly at bluelightk9foundation@gmail.com
Reach out via Instagram
We offer emotional-support visits, structured enrichment sessions, and special events tailored to each program’s needs.
What breeds do you work with?
We work with all breeds, focusing on dogs with the right temperament for training and placement. Many of our dogs are:
Labrador Retrievers
Golden Retrievers
Poodles
Shepherds
Mixed breeds from shelters
Temperament matters more than breed — every dog deserves a chance.
Where do your dogs come from?
Our dogs are primarily rescued from California shelters, especially those at risk of euthanasia. We evaluate each dog’s behavior, health, and potential for training before accepting them into our program. Some dogs also come from owner-surrender situations or community referrals when space allows.
